Autumn 1 2024

Beast Creator

We have had a fabulous first half-term of the year.  To start the term, we had a visit from the amazing Animal Cwtch.  We learnt so much about their amazing creatures and learnt about how they adapt to their environments.  We had lots of opportunities to hold the animals and had lots of questions.

We also started to think about our Big Question - are bugs the super food of the future?  And what better way to start thinking about the question than by having a try.  We whipped up tasty pizzas - locust and pineapple, mealworm and pepper and various other combinations, as well as sampling a honey roasted cricket chocolate pudding - YUM!

We have started our class novel 'Journey to the River Sea' and we have been excited by Maia's journey to the Amazon and all that she experiences there.  We have reflected on how she is feeling and have put ourselves in Maia's shoes and written letters back home to our friends at Mayfair academy.  We are looking forward to seeing how the story continues and how it further fires our imaginations.

We have also been very excited by the launch of our Senedd.  We have undertaken a rigorous process to appointment our new Head Girl, Head Boy, Deputy Head Girl, Deputy Head Boy and our Senedd members - applications and interviews were excellent and we were so proud of the efforts of all who applied.  We will be updating our website in the coming weeks and will share with you the link in our weekly newsletter so you can read more about our planned work for the coming year.

Finally, I have been blown away this half-term by our work in RVE.  We have been thinking about the Big Question - How does Welsh stained glass and art express spirituality?  The children have shown great depth to their thinking and have expressed opinions and views giving examples and evidence to support their thinking.  They have also used this to learning and thinking to design their own stained glass windows and the outcome was outstanding.  So proud of their efforts - check out the pictures below for a sample of the finished pieces.
