Autumn 2 2024
Another busy but very enjoyable half term! We began working on our fabulous art work for our Sharing the Learning and art gallery event for our parents and carers. We learnt lots of new skills that we can apply in our own independent creations and the results were AMAZING! We were so proud of our efforts! Check out our efforts below!
We also used a range of media to create a set of notelets for our art gallery shop. The results were really impressive and our parents/carers loved them too.
Our Sharing the Learning event was a huge success and we loved welcoming our families into school to take part in a range of activities and to browse our art gallery. We made firefly night lights, shared our 'Honey, I shrunk the kids' comic books, attempted to complete our 'bugtastic' 🐛 bug puzzle and savoured a delicious cream cheese and smoked paprika mealworm wrap! Yum, yum! Thanks for your support!
This half term, we have also celebrated Universal Children's Day. Ralph, our Rights Respecting Raccoon, is an important part of our school and helps us be a Rights Respecting School. He helps us learn about, promote and realise children's rights, ensuring the positive difference that children's rights can make is making a positive difference in our school and community. We thoroughly enjoyed thinking about our rights on this day and talked about our favourite right. We then had a pot of money and had to bid for our rights in order to create an island. When our money and rights had run out, we designed our islands and created a speech to persuade each other to come and live on island. We then dot voted where we would like to live. We did have a winning island but finally decided that because we all have these rights then we would join our islands together with bridges as we all want to live in a place where we have ALL of our rights! We also spent some time talking about what we can do to help children who don't get these rights.
We have ended the term with a focus on our school production. We have decided on 'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens. However, we wanted to ensure it was Penclawdd style! We travelled to Cardiff to watch an adaption of 'A Christmas Carol' at the Sherman theatre. It was fantastic and the children had such a fabulous time. We used the show to inspire our own adaption and we can't wait to perform to our school community. We have run auditions, the script has been adapted, costumes/set designed and rehearsals are going well. We also 'adopted' Hannah McPake - she is the amazing actor who plays Scrooge in the Cardiff adaption at the Sherman. She has been writing weekly to the children and giving them lots of useful tips and advice for running a successful show. After we watched the performance in Cardiff, we also had a question and answer session with her. So many skills learnt - what a great experience.
Wishing you a wonderful Christmas break and looking forward to another successful year in 2025!
