Autumn 2024 2

Numeracy

This half term, we’ve been developing our multiplication and division skills. We’ve had lots of practice at learning our 3,4,6,8,7 and 9 times tables. We’ve learnt how to use arrays to help us multiply and sharing into equal groups to help us to divide.

Literacy

We’ve enjoyed reading ‘The Rhythm of the Rain’ by Graham Baker Smith. We each wrote our own short narrative about our experiences with water. We also worked hard to write a poem, making sure that we used the best possible words to describe a thunder storm.

Topic

We’ve now completed our topic, ‘On Our Doorstep’. We were horrified to find out how litter and pollution negatively impacts our local wildlife. We applied the skills that we learnt throughout our topic to display the results of a litter survey on a suitable graph. We also carried out research to find out how much damage pollution can do to wildlife. We used our map skills to identify possible locations of pollution in the Estuary. We then came up with solutions to help protect our local area and wildlife. We enjoyed showing the results from our study with our grown-ups as part of our sharing the learning event.

Trips and Christmas

We loved our trip to the Sherman Theatre to watch A Christmas Carol. It was great to meet Hannah, the lead actor, and ask her questions. Back in class, we’ve been looking at how colour can change a character’s mood on stage. We practised mixing colours to create different shades. We will now select suitable colours to represent the characters in A Christmas Carol.
